2023 Trafficking in Persons Report: Latvia

On June 15, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the 2023 Report on Trafficking in Persons. As stated at the beginning of the Report, Latvia maintains its position at the 2nd level.

The Trafficking in Persons Report is published by the US Secretary of State every year in the summer, assessing the previous annual efforts of countries and territories in combating human trafficking.

Level 2 is characterized as: countries and territories whose governments do not fully comply with the minimum standards, but make significant efforts to achieve compliance with those standards. This is the next level after the first, highest level. Level 1 compliant designation: countries and territories whose governments fully comply with the minimum standards.

The report expresses a series of recommendations that could improve the situation in detecting and combating human trafficking.
