In order to foster the availability of information about life in Latvia to persons under international protection, last year the Society “Shelter “Safe House”” developed a mobile application “First steps in Latvia” within the scope of the project. Until now it has been available in Latvian, English, French, Arabic and Dari. “Taking into account that at present part of persons under international protection, who learn the integration training course and Latvian with us within the project, are Russian-speaking persons, we have made the mobile application available also to this audience”, indicated the project manager Zanda Rudene.
The mobile application provides the persons under international protection with the opportunity to get answers to frequently asked questions about life in Latvia. “It also partially includes information from the website developed by the Society www.beglis.lv on the most topical questions for the target group and answers to them,” explains Z.Rudene. “We are planning to continue working on the improvement of the application and the version in Russian is now being tested by participants of our training groups.” She informs that visual information (a video) has been prepared for the application, with the help of which participants of training courses may obtain skills in using this tool and obtain necessary information.
“First steps in Latvia” are available in Google Play and App Store for free.
Until 30 June 2020 support under the Support Actions for Persons under International Protection II project will be provided to 500 persons, among them adults, children, and illiterate asylum seekers.
