December 18 - International Migrants Day!

Ievietots: 13.12.2012

Poeple all around the World including inhabitants of Latvia are affected by the consequences of migration.  There are a lot of families with their members gone abroad in order to find a better employment, obtain education, family reunion and for other reasons. The same reasons are encouraging poeple from other countries e.g. Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, USA, Canada to go to Latvia.

Refugees from countries of ongoing war (Afganistan, Iran, Syria) find Latvia to be a safe country for living.

The World has been familiar with the notion of migration for quite a long time, however, the attitude of each country towards this fenomena differs as well as the treatment towadrs the reasons and consequences of immigration and emigration.

December 18 is International  Migrants Day. In this context an informative undertaking ‘’Vanishing The Borders’’ is going to be organized by the society ‘’Shelter „Safe House’’”.  The aim of the event is to let people learn about the experience of Iranians, Indians, Ukrainians and the representatives of other nationalities by listening to so - called ‘"ive books’". The event is going to be held in the premises of the ‘’Robert`s Books’’ store (Dzirnavu Street 51) on December 18th from 3 to 7 pm.

The participants of the event, so – called ‘’live books’’, are migrants from Iran, Ukraine and India who are going to tell about their lives back at home, the reasons that forced them to leave their homes and how they envisage their future.
