Launching a Campaign Against Human Trafficking on September 18

The European Commission has announced 18th of October the Anti-Human Trafficking Day which will be celebrated for the seventh time this year indicating at the cross-border character of the problem and the need to limit it.

In order to inform the society about the risks of human trafficking and to decrease the number of human trafficking cases, the society “Shelter “Safe House”” launches a campaign “Be Smart – Prevent Human Trafficking” within the framework of the project “Sold Freedom II” from September 18 to October 18 this year.

Different interactive informative activities are planned to be organized within a month in 9 Latvian cities - Riga, Liepaja, Eleja, Viesite, Daugavpils, Dagda, Ludza, Gulbene and Salacgriva. Non-governmental organizations from Lithuania and Estonia will also participate in the campaign this year.

The opening of the event will be held on September 18, 2013 at 13:00 – 16:00, at Stacijas laukums 4 (next to t/c “Origo”), in Riga.

During the event, every interested person will be able to visit the Informative trailer of the society and get acquainted with the exhibition installed in it, to talk with the society’s experts in matters of human trafficking and to receive educational informative materials.

Riga City Council is the only one in Latvia that has been organizing different preventive events on issues of human trafficking for four years already, therefore, at 13:20 the campaign will be opened and parting words will be told by the Chairman of the Defence, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee of Riga City Council Dainis Turlais.
