“Our customers mostly want to get advice regarding the procedure of receiving a residence permit – necessary documents, terms and costs, family reunification, employment and business-related issues,” one of the consults, lawyer Alvis Šķenders, told us. “Within two months, 32 persons have been consulted in person, more than 34 people have been consulted by phone, while less than 11 people have been consulted by e-mail. Often, one person was consulted repeatedly on different issues”.
To ensure consultation services of high quality, interpreters of various languages are involved, but in case of rare languages, including Persian, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish and others – people having good knowledge of the particular language are involved.
Consultations are provided under the participation agreement concluded between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and “Shelter “Safe House”” on 29 February 2016, on execution of certain public administration tasks for integration of third-country nationals.
*A third-country national is any person who is not a citizen of the member states of the European Union, the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation
