Riga Information Centre for Newcomers (a project implemented by the society “Shelter “Safe House””) has successfully held the Open Day on March 23!
In the morning, a lecture “Investments and Financing” took place in the premises of “Safe House” at 75 Lāčplēša Street (in cooperation with the project “Migrant Talent Garden”). Those immigrants who have their own business or are thinking about starting a business had come to listen to lecturer Reinis Budriķis. Discussions on various business-related issues continued even after the lecturer had left. An immigrant can be (and is!) an active person who integrates into Latvian society through his or her economic activity.
Further events took place at the National Library of Latvia – many thanks to the LNL for cooperation!
We had especially invited immigrants from Ukraine to a meeting called "We Inform – We Help". Experienced ICI lawyers Gita Miruškina, Alvis Šķenders and Egidijs Barakauskis spoke about the work of the Information Center, the available services and the use of information resources. Conclusion: there is much information, but nothing is better than an individual conversation, when the customer is answered directly to his questions!
During this meeting, the National Library of Latvia provided a lesson for children who got acquainted with the exposition “Book in Latvia” and worked in the LNL study room “Virtakas Class”.
In her lecture “Ukraine and Ukrainians, then and now”, lecturer Viktorija Prituļaka, a Latvian translator and ethnomusicologist of Ukrainian origin, educated and touched the audience with a story about the genesis of the Ukrainian people and about heroism today.
Even in stressful, difficult times, it is important to celebrate when there is a good reason for it. The day ended at 75 Lāčplēša Street with two events in a festive mood: a workshop for the inner peace “Aroma of Life” and a meeting of Farsi speakers in the mood of Novruz - the New Year of the Eastern World. Happy New Year!
The Open Day is over, but the Information Center for Newcomers continues to work. Newcomers from third countries are invited to apply and receive assistance! On the website integration.lv you can learn how to apply to our specialists and find a lot of useful information in Latvian, English and Russian. See you again!
